Features of welding robots

2021-09-15

Spot welding is not very demanding for welding robots. Because spot welding only requires point control, there are no strict requirements for the movement trajectory of welding tongs between points, which is why robots can only be used for spot welding at the earliest. The robot for spot welding must not only have sufficient load capacity, but also be fast when shifting between points, smooth in action, and accurate in positioning to reduce the time of shifting and improve work efficiency. How much load capacity a spot welding robot needs depends on the form of welding tongs used. For welding tongs separated from the transformer, a robot with a load of 30~45kg is sufficient. However, on the one hand, this kind of welding tongs has a large power loss due to the long secondary cable line, which is not conducive to the robot extending the welding tongs into the workpiece for welding; On the other hand, the cable keeps swinging with the movement of the robot, and the cable is damaged quickly. Therefore, the use of integrated welding tongs is gradually increasing. The mass of this welding tongs together with the transformer is about 70kg. Considering that the robot must have sufficient load capacity and can send the welding tongs to the space position for welding with large acceleration, heavy-duty robots with 100~150kg load are generally selected. In order to adapt to the requirements of rapid shift of welding tongs over short distances during continuous spot welding. The new heavy-duty robot adds the ability to complete 50mm displacement in 0.3s. This puts forward higher requirements for the performance of the motor, the computing speed of the microcomputer and the algorithm.
